Augustus Brown & Phil Kotschenreuther

Types of Mediation We Offer

Although there is no official certification for mediation or arbitration in Maryland, the Maryland Circuit Courts use arbitrators and mediators whom each Court has qualified. These qualifications for appointment differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but in general they include requiring the Mediator or Arbitrator to meet certain educational and experiential requirements, and to have been accepted for inclusion on a county court's mediation panel. Those included may then be appointed as a court-ordered Mediator in that county, on a case-by-case basis.

Family Mediation for Married & Unmarried Couples

Phil Kotschenreuther is a frequent mediator for actual divorcing and separating couples, both married and unmarried, and is an acknowledged expert on how Family Law affects business and real estate holdings.

Gus Brown is qualified in Harford County and Cecil County as a mediator to handle Dispute Resolution related to:

  • Personal Injury Claims
  • Medical Malpractice Claims
  • Litigation Mediation

Gus also frequently serves as a court-appointed Arbitrator in the above types of cases, and in general legal areas.

Recently, Phil was twice a featured speaker at the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) seminar on Family Law, Real Property, and Estate Planning, and he worked as a divorce mediator on three instances for the Pro Bono Family Law Mediation Project, co-sponsored by the University of Baltimore School of Law, Baltimore City Circuit Court, and Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland.

Phil concentrates in mediating issues related to:

  • Divorce and Legal Separation
  • Child custody
  • Child support
  • Alimony
  • Property division
  • Grandparental rights
  • Visitation

Mediation in the Business World

As qualified Mediators in the Circuit Courts of Harford County and Cecil County, Gus and Phil are frequently appointed by the courts to handle the following:

  • Real Estate & Construction Mediation
  • Contract Law Mediation
  • Employment Dispute Mediation

They also offer these services directly to private individuals or businesses that wish to avoid the costs of in-court process.
